My Big Show

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was:
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is where you are from, food, clothes and religions.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read The Battle of the Mountains and Maui and the Sun I have written my own legend called The legend of Water and Fire.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

For our production I contributed by helping to choreograph all of the dances I was in.

I think the show might impact on others by teaching them what The Battle of the Mountains.

What I learned about working with others was that everyone can do a variety of dances.

Project Based Learning

Hello my name is Isabella welcome to my blog. Our learning focus for project based learning this term is about culture stories. I think it is pretty cool and so far pretty fun. My Mum is half Greek and my Dad is from France and Samoa so I have lots of culture. I am mostly Greek . One of our traditions is name day. In Greece children are named after Saints or gods . If you have a name after a Saint then you celebrate your Saints day as your name day. For example my name is Isabella Eleftheria Vaiese and I got baptised Eleftheria so I celebrate Saint Eleftherios name day on December 15th each year. My family says to me ‘Xronia Polla” which means happy name day. In Greece it is tradition to name your child after their grandparents. I am named after my Paupau (grand father) Eleftherios. I have the female equivalent Eleftheria. In Greece all people are the same religion, Greek Orthodox. I am baptised Greek Orthodox. There are some interesting things in Orthodox religion. It is a very old religion. Jesus is the head of the church, not the pope and we celebrate Easter more than Christmas. These are some photos of greek religion.
At my Christening I was fully submerged in a font, the priest took some of my hair and I was washed and slathered in olive oil. My Godmother is my Aunty Elene. She gave me a beautiful cross and special outfit. Another tradition is that women in Greece wear their wedding band on their right hand not their left as in NZ. This is because Jesus worked his miracles with his right hand. When a child is born in Greece their parents pin a evil eye on the child’s clothes to warn off bad spirits or evil. Greek homes also have icons to pray to, and we light candles to remember a loved Paupau who sadly passed away. At our house we eat Greek food. For example olives, keftedes, tiropita, feta cheese, greek salad and my Mum cooks with lots of lemons and oregano which is special because lemon and oregano is used lots in greek food. In Wellington we love going to the greek cafe and getting tiropita and greek chocolate. It is very yummy. Family is very important to us and I love spending time with my Yiayia. I got to spend 6 weeks in Greece with my Yiayia when I was little. Our family is loud when we get together. Greek homes often have doilies and I have some that my Mums Yiayia made. We also have a greek vase that is an example of a vase found in a greek ruin. That is my culture what is yours?

story

This is following up from the previous Snippet of the magic tree and is a lot longer but I hope you enjoy it in this righting I've been trying to plan my righting and add Capitol letters when needed.

Ring ring  ring  ring  ring  ring  Elane raced down stairs and jumped on her little brother Anthony hugged her big sister valaskey then raced upstairs to get changed before her dad woke up and took them out for the usual Sunday breakfast.  She put on her nice little light pink dress with the light yellow sewn on flowers it was a nice dress for a little occasion.  After she went to brush her hair she took a watering can and went down to water her tree the kids each had a tree her mum and dad took them down to a shop once and let the them pick a tree and name it.  Elane Cos a evergreen that was 7 like her and unlike any evergreen tree this tree had silver leaves the shape of stars that shined in the day and night.  Elane felt like she had a special conachen with shimmer  Like she could talk to it and it would  understand and talk back like it could cheer her up and make her feel like she was magic and the most important person in the world.  Some sunny days she would sit at the foot of the tree and read her book or practice her flute.  She loved her tree and cered for it more than the others even her big sister how was always responsible sometimes she was so responsible that elany had to water her evergreen oxygenate (Anthony helped chous it.) but she did not mind a bit because she liked it.  She also had to remind her little brother Anthony because he often forgot and brrm brrm (his plant) got dry and wrinkly.  Elane was just about to go and see if her sister and brother remembered to water their plants so she knew if she had to water them so they would not dry out in the harsh sun that was burning down on them when…That was the next part of the story followng up from “Help we need to protect it if the red queen's army gets their hands on it how noes what they will do”.  Yes I got it we can use a… so like I said before hope you enjoyed it and please comment.
