Hi, welcome back to my blog.  Today I will be showing you my reading task for this week.  This week for reading we have been working more on the fantastics.

That was my reading task for this week.  Have you read any of the books on the slide.

Hansel and Gretel

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my writing create task for this week.  This week the goal was:  Use a range of written features to engage the audience.
support ideas with detail(use an adverb to show how). We had to write 3 sentences about what the   scenes in the book: Hansel and Gretel would look like in our own words.

Forest

Sentence 1
Hansel and Gretel moved slowly through the sea of sharp branches. Branches so sharp they would cut them with the slightest touch. As they moved deeper into the forest the trees became more and more deadly. They stared into the deep ominous forest and wondered how they would get out.

Sentence 2
The dark lonely forest seemed to go on forever. As Hansel and Gretel moved, the branches almost seemed to move closer. As if they were trying to trap the children in the deadly scary lonely place.

Sentence 3
The sharp branches scraped at Hansel and Gretel’s clothing as the two small children tried to make sense of the never ending maze. The fog seemed to almost settle just above the children, taunting them, making it even harder to navigate the endless forest that Hansel and Gretel were now trapped in.

Smells and how they moved

Sentence 1
Suddenly the clearing was overcome with a sweet smell. It almost seemed to dance toward the children. Alluring the children to follow the smell.

Sentence 2
Into the clearing came a tangy smell. It wafted into the children's nose. Overcome with hunger they ran to find the place from where the smell was being cultivated.

Sentence 3
As the children sat down a scrumptious smell drifted around the children. They inhaled and as soon as they smelly the divine smell drifting around them they leapt up and happily skipped away to find the owner of the smell.

Waiting
Sentence 1
The children sat there, crouched in anticipation for the owner of the house to come home.

Sentence 2
The children halted as they approached the house. Waiting to see if someone was there.

Sentence 3
They delayed going into the house. Waiting.  Watching. Listening for any sign of life in the house of candy.

Dialogue
Sentence 1
“Are we lost?” Asked Gretel. “No, we are perfectly fine,” replied Hansel . They both looked up at the dark trees. “Can we go home?” begged Gretel. “I'm scared”. “No, I know where we are going”. Said Hansle. Even though he knew that they were hopelessly lost.

Sentence 2
“I'm scared,” commented Gretel. “Same but I know that we are not lost”.  Added Hansle. They continued through the forest. “ can we please go home” mumbled Gretel.” Everything will be fine, I can look after us”. Said Hansle. But they both knew that they could never go home.

Sentence 3
“ I think we go this way to get back home”. Said Hansle to his sister.” Do you know where we're really going?” asked Gretel. “Sure I do, I'll get us back home in no time,” Hansle replied. He tried to stay brave for his sister but deep down he was scared and lost as well.

Candy house and how it tastes

Sentence 1
The house glistened with sugar and the crystallized candy gleaned in the shafts of sunlight.  The lolly encrusted door beckoned to the children as well as the chocolate covered roof. Eager with hunger and overcome by the smell the siblings ran towards the house and dug in. Bombs of tart flavors exploded in their mouths and they happily sucked on the sweets that decorated the candy house.

Sentence 2
As the children approached the shimmering shining sugar made candy house they took a moment to take in the candy encrusted roof, walls and door. Then, they began to eat.  They ate and ate. Sweet candy, crunchy sweets and scrumptious lollies. The house had all of those and more. To the children, this was heaven.

 Sentence 3
The magnificent house sat there in the middle of the clearing. The patches of sunlight illmouning the sweets on the roof, walls and door of the candy house. The bright colors were a big contrast to the dark sorindings the children called a forest. The children ran to the house and began to eat. Hansel ripped big chunks out of the roof and doors ; Gretel pefred to delicately pick sweets off the walls. The children ate until they were satisfied. Then sat down to rest.

Little red riding hood

Hi, welcome back to my blog. This week for reading the goal was: Being able to analyse a text and closely notice intentional writing choices authors make has 2 major benefits, it helps your own writing and helps your ability to gain deeper meaning. For our create task we had to read the story of Little red riding hood then highlight where some of the fantastics where used.

That was my create task. Where there any sentences that you saw that could be highlighted and that I missed?

Where the mountain meets the moon

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my reading task for this week. The goal for this week is: Visualise using all of the senses, and talk about how this enriches meaning.

We had to read a text then draw what when saw when reading the text.

If the text was too small this is what is said.
   The Text
Far away from here, following the Jade River, there was once a black mountain that cut into the sky like a jagged piece of rough metal. The villagers called it Fruitless Mountain because nothing grew on it and birds and animals did not rest there.Crowded in the corner of where Fruitless Mountain and the Jade River met was a village that was a shade of faded brown. This was because the land around the village was hard and poor. To coax rice out of the stubborn land, the
fields had to be flooded with water. The villagers had to tramp in the mud, bending and stooping and planting day after day. Working in the mud so much made it spread everywhere and the hot sun dried it onto their clothes and hair and homes. Over time, everything in the village had become the dull color of dried mud.

That was my create task. Have you read the book: Where the mountain meets the moon.

Maths

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task for this week. The two goals for the maths workshop this week are: Identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes using mathematical language. For my create task I had shapes and I had to categorise them.

Another goal that I did was: Represent objects with drawings and models.
for the create task I had to make these shapes with multilink cubes

Then I had to put them all together to create a cube. This was the end result.

For the final question I had to make a cube but this time make different shapes that go together to make the cube. We had to draw these on isometric paper.
This is what I did.

That was my create tasks. Do you know some of the shapes on the blue sheat? or can you tell me another way to create the cube?

Volume & Area

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task for this week. The two goals for the maths workshop this week are: Use side or edge lengths to find the volumes of cuboids and Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. My create task is a how to about how to find the area and volume of shapes.

If you cant see the create task because it it too small here is the link

That was my create task for this week. A quick question before you go, Peter has a piece of string that is 30 cm long. He thinks that all the rectangles he makes all have the same area. What do you think? Tell me in the comments. ( the answer is below)

Answer
They are not all the same. Why? well, say you have a triangle that is 1cm high and the width is 14cm. 14cmx1cm=14cm
Then you have a different triangle that is 3cm high and the width is 13cm.
3cmx13cm=39cm-rembring that all all measurements are squared when working out area.
So not all triangles that made with string 30cm long have the same area. Please tell me what answer you got.
