P.B.L final product

Hi, today I will be showing you my P.B.L final product.  For P.B.L our driving question is:  What will the future ask of us and from that me and my group ( Makayla and Naiara) Made up a sub question that relates to our driving question: How can we ensure our oceans remain habitable in the future. To answer that question we decided  to make a sea bin as our main artifact and then for our two sporting artefact's we decided to make business cards and posters.
We decided our main artifact had to have these things: Made out of some of the rubbish in the sea.  As well as waterproof cover and well covered engine. The water bin will be dull or fluorescent so that fish stay away from it and not get stuck in it. It will be easy to empty and will float easily. This is what our main artifact looks like

Then we wanted our two sub artifacts to explain why we needed things like this and how it was inspired.

This is what we came up with.

Poster

Business card

After we made those we then went on to present them. That was awesome. We gave away most of our business cards and posters. I think that all the people that came to our stall learnt a little bit more about the ocean, how it is getting polluted, why it is getting polluted and what we can do to stop it.

Thanks for reading this blog Post.  Do you know some ways to help save our oceans? If so please let me know by leaving a comment. Bye.

Maths Bar Graph

Hi, today I will be showing you my bar graph for maths. For maths we have been looking into statistical investigations and this is my bar graph.

The variables for this investigation were 2 minutes walk, star jumps, sit ups and sprint.

From this graph you can see that in the:
2 Minute walk Harry's heart rate got up to 150, Tim's heart rate got up to 148, and Sarah's heart rate got up to 160 .

In the 2 Minutes of star jumps Harry's heart rate got up to 172, Tim's heart rate got up to 186, and Sarah's heart rate got up to 192 .

In the 2 Minute sit ups Harry's heart rate got up to 158, Tim's heart rate got up to 198 and Sarah's heart rate got up to 162 .

In the 2 Minute Sprint Harry's heart rate got up to 198 Tim's heart rate got up to 206 and Sarah's heart rate got up to 200 .

You can also see that:
Tim had the lowest heart rate in the two minute walk but he had the highest heart rate in the two minute sprint.

All the participants in the 2 Minute sprint had a higher heart rate than in any other exercise

In the 2 minute walk all the participants serpent's heart rate was the lowest compared to the other exercise

And that:
average for the 2 Minute walk is 153

average for the 2 Minute of star jumps is 183

average for the 2 Minute sit up is 173
average for the 2 Minute Sprint is 201

Do you know how to do a statistical investigation?

Reading Slides

Hi, today I will be showing you my Reading slides. For this slide show I will be sharing with you my book that I am reading: On two feet and wings. As I already said in my other blog an  we chose our novels by having a reading cafe, and we went around taste testing ( reading) some different story's. We then had to rate the books we read from most favorite to least favorite.

Reconciliation

Hi, today I will be showing you my poster that I did on Reconciliation for R.E. I chose Reconciliation because it is a topic that most people don't talk about very often. I also liked researching the symbols and why people go to Reconciliation.

That was my poster hope you enjoyed. Did you learn anything?

Best sport ever

Hi, today I will be telling you about the sport I play for school winter sport. As you probably already know I play hockey for school winter sport and I have been playing since I was little. This term I made it into the A hockey team which is great. I am used to playing on turf which is artificial grass and what most people hockey on. But, unfortunately the first torment me and my team went to was played on grass.  Fortunately the rest of the hockey games we played where on turf.  My team won most of our games and the ones we did not win we played really well in. I played for the B team once this year when they did not have enough players but apart from that I played with my team. I think that my team did really well this year and that we should be proud. Do you play a sport?

On two feat and wings

Hi, today I will be sharing with you my novel that I am reading. How we chose our novels was that we had a reading cafe and we went around taste testing ( reading) some different story's. We then had to rate the books we read from most favorite to least favorite. My favorite was: On two wings and feat by Abbas Kazerooni. I liked it because it was exciting and it was based on a real life story. It was also sad because the main charter had to leave the country alone because the people in charge had lowed the recruitment age down to 8. Abbas ( the main charter) is 9 so his dad thinks that he would be drafted first. when Abbas is trying to get his visa so he can go to England he gets beaten up twice and has to survive by him self for a month.

Would you cope that long?

The food bank

Hi, today I will be telling you about Volunteering Week. Week 7 of term 3 my hub did either: graffiti removal, carpet bank of food bank. I chose to do food bank and luckily I got put in a group with one of my friends, Taylor. When we got there we where so surprised at all the food they had. We could not believe that all this food got donated to them. The first thing that we had to do was to make up a package of food. The people that worked there and already made up one package so what we had to do was to find all the food that was in the made package and put it into 8 unmade packages. There where 3 types of packages. Large, medium and small. We started with the large packages then we did the medium and lastly we did the small packages. This is a photo of what sort of things we where doing.

The Future

Hi, today I am going to be showing you my Future story.

Writing task

Hi, today I am going to be showing you my planing google drawing for my narrative.

That was my google drawing. Hope you enjoyed.

Math Mindset

Hi, for term two and the first 4 Mondays of term three my hub has been working on a online course about maths. Now you may be thinking that it was a course on math questions like 3+2 or 5x8. But it was about having a Maths Mindset. What is a Maths Mindset? Well a  Maths Mindset is basically a growth mindset just more for maths.  There where 6 lessons that we had to complete and they where all helpful. These are their names and a little bit about what they taught me.

1. Knocking down myths about maths
This lesson was all about knocking down myths about maths. ( like the title said).  In this lesson they talked about what people thought maths was about vs what maths is.  They asked people what they thought about maths, most people that got maths taught to them in a boring way, think maths is boring, therefore do not want to do maths.  People that get maths taught to them in a fun way, like maths and want to do more of it. Most people think that if they do not like maths, or if they are not good at maths, then they should just give up, because they are not a "maths person" They do not give their brain the information it needs to grow and so it shrinks like plastic.

2. Math and Mindset
This lesson was all about having a positive mindset, and not listening to people tell you that you can not do maths. The messages that you hear are important  because they encourage you or they make you feel  like you can become nothing better than you already are. If you have a growth mindset than you can achieve greater things than if you have a fixed mindset because you are believing in your self and that is important to.  Choosing a question that is the right level for you is important, you may think that choosing the right question is easy and it is. If you don't care what other people think.  In the video that I watched the students at Standford where given a question. When they had finished the teachers either told them that they were good at maths or that they worked hard on the question. The students then had the choice between an easy maths question and a hard maths question. The students that got told that they where good at maths chose the easy question and the students that got told that they worked hard on the question chose the hard question. Why? Well,  some people think that some students just wanted an easy question, but most people think that it was because if you get told that you are good at maths then you will not want to get a question wrong therefor choosing an easy question.

3.  This lesson was all about not giving up. Struggling is good because when you struggle you grow your brain and make your brain stronger.  Speed does not matter, it is better to be slow and understand the task more then be fast but get the task wrong. If you make a mistake then it does not matter as long as you learn for the mistake and do not make the same mistake again.  Do not think that you can not do something. If you have this mindset then you will never be able to do anything. Trust yourself and don't give up.

4.    This lesson was about 3 things.  Talking, reasoning and mathematical thinking.  At the beginning of this lesson I thought that only mathematical thinking was going to be useful. At the end of the lesson they where all equal important in my eyes.  The thing that changed my mind was that the thought of maths not just being about hard questions that you find hard to answer. But about explaining why you chose the strategy and why you think that this was the best strategy to use. To properly convince someone that the strategy you used is the best and most efficient you have to be able to talk and reason, as well as you mathematically think.

5.    This lesson was about 3 small but very important things . Numbers, Patterns and Representations.  The first thing that they talked about was numbers. Numbers are so important in maths because they are one of the things that makes math, math. They also help with real life situations. The second thing that they talked about was patterns. Finding patterns in maths is really important because they help you work out the answers to questions faster. The third thing that they talked about was representations. like the other two representations are really important. They help with how you see math. If you get maths set out in a boring way then you will probably think that maths is boring but if you get maths set out in a fun way then you will probably think that maths is fun.

6.  This lesson was about math in life, nature and work. The people talked about how everything that has pattens has math. Art, dance, sport etc. The main thing that I took away from this lesson was that you can always find math in everything.  It is also very helpful for finding math in school. Say for example I have to use a strategy that I have never used before then I can often find a real life situation to help me.

Thank you for reading this blog post. What was the most important thing that you took away from this?
