Where the mountain meets the moon

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my reading task for this week. The goal for this week is: Visualise using all of the senses, and talk about how this enriches meaning.

We had to read a text then draw what when saw when reading the text.

If the text was too small this is what is said.
   The Text
Far away from here, following the Jade River, there was once a black mountain that cut into the sky like a jagged piece of rough metal. The villagers called it Fruitless Mountain because nothing grew on it and birds and animals did not rest there.Crowded in the corner of where Fruitless Mountain and the Jade River met was a village that was a shade of faded brown. This was because the land around the village was hard and poor. To coax rice out of the stubborn land, the
fields had to be flooded with water. The villagers had to tramp in the mud, bending and stooping and planting day after day. Working in the mud so much made it spread everywhere and the hot sun dried it onto their clothes and hair and homes. Over time, everything in the village had become the dull color of dried mud.

That was my create task. Have you read the book: Where the mountain meets the moon.

Maths

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task for this week. The two goals for the maths workshop this week are: Identify and describe 2D and 3D shapes using mathematical language. For my create task I had shapes and I had to categorise them.

Another goal that I did was: Represent objects with drawings and models.
for the create task I had to make these shapes with multilink cubes

Then I had to put them all together to create a cube. This was the end result.

For the final question I had to make a cube but this time make different shapes that go together to make the cube. We had to draw these on isometric paper.
This is what I did.

That was my create tasks. Do you know some of the shapes on the blue sheat? or can you tell me another way to create the cube?

Volume & Area

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task for this week. The two goals for the maths workshop this week are: Use side or edge lengths to find the volumes of cuboids and Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. My create task is a how to about how to find the area and volume of shapes.

If you cant see the create task because it it too small here is the link

That was my create task for this week. A quick question before you go, Peter has a piece of string that is 30 cm long. He thinks that all the rectangles he makes all have the same area. What do you think? Tell me in the comments. ( the answer is below)

Answer
They are not all the same. Why? well, say you have a triangle that is 1cm high and the width is 14cm. 14cmx1cm=14cm
Then you have a different triangle that is 3cm high and the width is 13cm.
3cmx13cm=39cm-rembring that all all measurements are squared when working out area.
So not all triangles that made with string 30cm long have the same area. Please tell me what answer you got.

The curtain of darkness was pulled away

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my writing create task for this week. For writing the goal was: use language features specific to the purpose of the text. For my create task we had to make and write down some examples of language features specific to the purpose of the text.

That was my create task. Do you know any other use language features?

How to be normal

Hi, welcome back to my blog. This week my reading goal was: Synthesising - Think while reading, pick up new information, and come up with new ideas and new thinking. If you don't know Synthesising is changing and adding onto our thinking when reading. For our reading task we had to read the title of a book and then look at some of the pictures and in the first box write down what we thought the story was going to be about. Then in the second box we had to write down how our thinking had changed halfway through the story, and in the last box we had to write down our thinking at the end of the story.

That was my reading task.  Do you think that you Synthesise when reading?

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task.  The goal for this week is: Use a broad range of strategies to solve multiplication and division problems with whole numbers & decimals Proportional Adjustment.

That was my maths task. Did you find it helpfull?

show not tell

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be sharing with you my reading task for this week. The goal was: use show not tell when appropriate. For this task I had to recreate some sentences from my narriteve and give my understanding about show not tell.

writing

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my writing plan and the first pharraph.

This is my plan.

This is the first paragraph

In a small town there was a small house. In the small house there was a little girl with humongous ideas and inventions. Her name was Mira. She was the best inventor in the town and was well known throughout other towns as well. Her inventions always worked and she would always put them to good use. One day she was fixing a roof that had collapsed in a storm near her town. It was a hot day and she came down to get some water. All of a sudden her surroundings went from cherry to pitch black, then, nothing. When she woke she was in a stone room. The light filled in from a window its metal bars rusting and turning a ruddy red color. Dark green vines cimed up the walls indicating how old the place was. The walls themselves were stone bricks and were covered in moss. Old decayed furniture was dotted in random places around the small room. Mira looked down and found herself in a new bed. It was about the only thing that showed that she hadn't traveled back in time.

That was my writing. What would you have written about?

Reading

Hi, today I will be showing you 3 DLO's that I have been working on this week. They are each from a different book. The books are, The bone witch, Geronimo stilton and The witch of duva.

this is my wanted poster about, Geronimo stilton

This is my book review on, The witch of duva.

Book Review
Name: Isabella
Title:The witch of duva
Author/Illustrator: Leigh bardugo

Summary: There is a family that lives at the edge of a little town near the woods. In the family there is a Mum, Dad, a little girl and a little boy. The Dad was a very clever carpenter and wood cutter. He was well liked in the little town. He used to go to other places and sell what he made for food or money. But he couldn't when the famen came because no one had anything to give for his things. Then kids Mum started to fade and became like a ghost.  Then eventually she died. By the time her Mum died the little girl, Nadia,  was almost an adult. She knew that she was too old to believe in myths but she started to think more and more about the little girls going missing in the woods. They had happened so long ago that people had begun to call them myths. Until a little girl from there villege went missing. The whole village was nervous and they became even more concerned when more girls started going missing.

While this was happening a woman in the village was going to marry Nadia's Dad. Nadia did not like her stepmum and had a theory that she was the witch that was taking all the children. The stepmum was not very nice to Nadia ether. One day Nadia decided to run away into the woods that were said to have been eating the children. She began to follow the path into the woods. Not looking back at her house. She was so caught up in hedding forward that she forgot to check the path and by the time she looked down she was incredibly lost. A twig snapped behind her and she started running. Afraid to look behind her in case it was the monster that was taking the children. Then she came across a cottage in a clearing in the middle of the woods. She rushed inside and shut the door just in time. The house was a small house and at the stove was an old woman stirring a
pot.

The woman set down dinner and told Nadia to sit. Nadia knew that she shouldn't eat at a witches table but she was so overcome by hunger that she ate until she was full. Then she sat down to rest and fell asleep. When she woke up the witch asked her what she most wanted. Nadia anwserd “ I want to go home”, “ then go home” the witch said. “ I cant” Nadia whispered. “ Then help me stir the pot,” the witch said. This carried on for a couple of days. While at the witch's house Nadia learned how to make the most delicious dishes and the strange concoctions. At night Nadia watched hidden as the witch greated the strange people that came to her door. The witch always asked them the same question. “ what do you most want?”. They answered and she gave them a concoction that helped. One day the witch asked Nadia what she most wanted again. Nadia answered. “ I want the witch that takes children gone and I want my father free of the witch that takes his money, I want to go home”. The witch then said, “ Is this what you really want?”. “Yes,” Naida said.

The witch then made a gingerbread girl and turned Nadia into a crow. She then sent them off on the path to get back to the village. When she got home the gingerbread girl knocked on the door.  Her Dad opened the door and greeted his fake daughter warmley. Nadia's stepmom appeared at the door and her expression was sad. As Nadia looked at the scene through her bird eyes she was a bit disappointed. She had hoped that one look at the gingerbread girl would send her screaming away. But it didn't. Her father took her inside. He told the stepmom to go. On her way out Karina, the stepmom stopped and looked at the crow squawking at her furiously.  She throws a stone at Nadia and Nadia dodges it by an inch.  Then  Karina says “ go, some things are better not seen.” Nadia ignores this and continues watching the fake girl and her Dad from the window.
Inside her dad cradles the gingerbread girl and sobes into her shoulder. He starts blubbering about being sorry and about how he tried to stop and that he was so very sorry.  The next morning he is found dead and underneath the floorboards are the possessions of the girls that went missing.

In the end, Nadia goes back to helping the witch “stir the pot”,  Karina moves into a different village, and her brother becomes a hero. Fighting in wars and winning. Most of the time.
