Volume & Area

Hi, welcome back to my blog. Today I will be showing you my maths task for this week. The two goals for the maths workshop this week are: Use side or edge lengths to find the volumes of cuboids and Use a variety of strategies to calculate the area of rectangles, parallelograms, and triangles. My create task is a how to about how to find the area and volume of shapes.

If you cant see the create task because it it too small here is the link

That was my create task for this week. A quick question before you go, Peter has a piece of string that is 30 cm long. He thinks that all the rectangles he makes all have the same area. What do you think? Tell me in the comments. ( the answer is below)

Answer
They are not all the same. Why? well, say you have a triangle that is 1cm high and the width is 14cm. 14cmx1cm=14cm
Then you have a different triangle that is 3cm high and the width is 13cm.
3cmx13cm=39cm-rembring that all all measurements are squared when working out area.
So not all triangles that made with string 30cm long have the same area. Please tell me what answer you got.
